Arivin Therapeutics is an innovative biotech company established in Finland. It is developing the next generation of anti-toxin strategies to tackle one of the biggest global health problems we currently face: resistant bacterial infections.

The company took part in Luova Lämpiö co-research project to help communicate their innovation for a wider audience. Christopher Jonkergouw, CEO of Arivin Therapeutics explains: “In science-based startups, the focus is often on developing highly specialized and technical solutions to address major challenges. However, these complex technologies can be difficult for a broader audience to grasp".

The project between Arivin Therapeutics and the creative professionals proved highly successful as Arivin Therapeutics continued the project with the creatives outside Luova Lämpiö. Christopher notes "Collaborating across disciplines with creative professionals can be invaluable in presenting these innovations in a way that is not only accessible but also memorable. Ultimately, effective communication is a key factor in driving the adoption and success of new technologies.“.

The project began with co-initiation phase in collaboration with Arivin Therapeutics
during which the company’s challenge was identified. This was presented to creative industry professionals in the Challenge Labs where ideation for the challenge began. Based on the ideas formed at Challenge Labs, the research team chose the strongest and most suitable idea for execution.

The project for Arivin Therapeutics was created by Visual Director, Animator and Illustrator Anh Ngoc Chau, Writer, Editor and Voice Actor Amy ”Bear” Wiseman, Sound Designer Eelis Lähteenaro and Designer Wen Ouyang.

The project resulted in an animated video that highlights the problems caused by antimicrobial resistance, which Arivin Therapeutic’s anti-virulence strategies treat. The harm of antimicrobial resistance is explained via a science-fiction metaphor.

Q&A with Arivin Therapeutics' CEO Christopher Jonkergouw

What did you want to take part in Luova Lämpiö and why do you find the co-research project important?
The Luova Lämpiö project enabled us to present the global issue of antibiotic resistance in a simple, playful and engaging way.

What value, in your opinion, do multidisciplinary practices and collaboration bring?
Fresh Perspectives: Specialization in any field often narrows the ability to see outside viewpoints. Multidisciplinary projects introduce new angles that can drive breakthrough innovations.

What made you interested in expanding your collaboration to the creative sector?
Collaborating with the creative field arose from our challenge/need of making science-based innovations accessible to broader audiences. While technical precision is essential, effectively communicating its value is equally important.
What kind of value do you believe creative thinking, creative practices, and the expertise of creative professionals can bring to companies/organisations?
Stronger Identity Integration: Regardless of the industry, organizations benefit when society understands the problems they aim to address or solve.
